Feuer paints frequency sustain onto drum loops

There's a free plugin that lets you draw a frequency map and ring only the bands you pick — no EQ automation, just a spectrum paint and an XY pad. That and a few sound-design tricks that don't need new plugins.

Feuer: draw a frequency map and ring the bands you choose(free)

Two panels let you paint which frequencies sustain, then morph between them with an XY pad. Push the lows for odd kick movement, or make hi-hats sizzle longer without an extra reverb.

▶ Kick knock at 120 Hz, not 50 — and a compressor threshold that reads +10

Drewer runs a house kick through an SSL 4000 chain: +12 dB bell at 120 Hz adds knock without boom, -3 dB at 200 Hz cleans rumble, and the gate clamps with a 90 range. The compressor threshold sits at +10 because the input already peaks hard.

▶ Turn Echo into a string model with delay times under 100 ms

Shorten Echo’s delay so repeats become pitch, feed it noise and an envelope-shaped Auto Filter, and you get a plucked physical model. Add Grain Delay and Shifter for ring-modulated textures — all stock Live devices.

▶ Beat Repeat louder than the dry signal on shakers, and delay intervals that shift like a groove

On a shaker track, set Beat Repeat volume +6 dB so the glitches hit harder than the source. Automate delay interval from a third to a sixth on snares, and EQ out the low end in the feedback loop to keep the tail tight.

Lucid auto-tunes every grain to the project key — granular that stays in tune

Load a vocal, pick a scale, and each grain retunes to it. You can crank the grain density without losing the note. Works on melodies or noise to add harmonic texture.

▶ Atlas Reverb is $29, algorithmic, and ducks using its own input signal

No external sidechain needed — the ducker rides the dry signal. Space shapes early reflections, depth is modulation, and the damping ratios split at 492 Hz and 2782 Hz to sculpt the tail separately for lows and highs.
