Nu Groove Records was the brainchild of Frank and Karen Mendez alongside Judy Russell, with the pair running the label between 1988 and 1992. It was initially founded to release music by Rheji & Ronald Burrell, whom Frank and Karen managed at the time. Early releases included Bas Noir's 'My Love Is Magic' and Aphrodisiac's 'Your Love', while its roster of producers ranged widely, taking in the Burrell twins, Bobby Konders, Frankie Bones and Kenny 'Dope' Gonzalez. The label runs sublabels including Jazzy Records, Looney Tunes and Rhythmatic Rage, and UK label Defected acquired Nu Groove in 2017.
