Kill the highs, shelf ’em back.
Insert a parametric EQ on your hi-hat bus. Set a 24 dB/oct low‑pass at 8 kHz to strip brittle highs, then add a high‑shelf band at 10 kHz, +6 dB. The shelf brings back a softened, tape‑like air — the grit is gone but the openness stays. Classic lo‑fi cassette sheen, zero digital harshness.
