THE 800 HZ 'MUD' BAND

Don't cut the 800 Hz mud—boost it.

Instead of cutting the 800–1 kHz 'mud' band, boost it 2–4 dB with a bell EQ on your bass. This range carries the note's attack and finger noise—defining the bass without low-mid mud. Many producers scoop it; boosting it makes the bass articulate and sit forward.
