The hidden setting that cuts Ableton's Wavetable CPU by 25%
Ableton's Wavetable has a Hi-Quality toggle you've probably never touched. Turn it off and the synth gets leaner, using a different filter model. That's one of over a dozen hidden instrument and MIDI effect tricks in the lead feature today.
▶ Wavetable's CPU cut and the other hidden Ableton tricks
Wavetable and Drift both have a Hi-Quality toggle buried in their context menus. Turning it off saves real CPU—the synth swaps in a lighter filter model. The video also covers Operator's one-click key-tracking setup, Drum Sampler's pitch-following default, and Chord's undocumented MPE switch.

▶ Finish more tracks by designing only the hero sound
Ned Rush (80+ releases) says spending hours on sound design for every element kills your output. He puts that time into a single hero sound and uses presets for the rest. Also included: a density calibration exercise—strip a track to bare bones, then overstuff it, to find your personal midpoint.
▶ Re-sequence your chord progression by dragging the position knob
Granulator III is just a sampler with tiny grain windows. Load a chord sample, hold one long MIDI note, and automate the position bar to walk through the progression—even backward for a different feel. The variation knob adds randomization so it never repeats the same way. Works in any granular synth.

UVI Player goes free, now plays Falcon Expansions(free)
If you've been skipping Falcon expansions because you don't own Falcon, this is the unlock. UVI Player loads them with their custom interfaces and macros. You can't deep-edit the synthesis, but you get the presets and layering. Existing Workstation users can ignore it—nothing changes for them.
A synth built from the light spectra of chemical elements(€69)
Each element's emission lines become a note's partials—frequency, level, and decay come from real physics data. Morph between elements with the Mix knob while a note sustains. The demo is unlimited, but it beeps every minute. €69.

▶ Grates, Morse code, and a deck of cards as rhythm generators
Andrew Huang turns a street grate that catches rocks into a rhythm grid, and maps a random number generator to beat spacing. If you're stuck, write a melody starting from a fixed rhythm instead of harmony. The Make Noise GTE tempo-locks vocal-triggered gates, so they only fire on beat.
UA's FATSO adds sidechain filtering and variable transformer saturation
The hardware's been on records from Willie Nelson to Soundgarden. The plugin adds sidechain filtering and independent transformer drive, plus expanded compression on the Sr model—stuff the original FATSO never had.
A four-band compressor with per-band auto detection
OberComp splits audio with Linkwitz-Riley crossovers and gives each band its own threshold and pre/post gain. It's compression you shape like EQ. The launch promo ended in 2025, but the tool still holds up if you need that per‑band control.
Kerri Chandler — Bar A Thym
the off-beat organ stab that never lets up · pairs with Andrew Huang's found-rhythm ideas—this track is a lesson in one loop, infinite groove.
