Mau P's drum splitter: separate kick, snare, hats, then swap
The Mau P breakdown at the top of today's issue gives you a drum splitter macro that separates a full beat into kick, snare, hats, and loops — then a right-click trick that swaps the copyrighted slices for your own samples.

▶ Separate a full beat into kick, snare, hats, and loops — then swap each slice with your own samples
The Mau P breakdown shows you how to build a custom drum splitter macro in Ableton that uses one-shots for kicks and loops for the rest, no AI required. Once separated, right-click each slice, hit Show Similar Files, and replace the copyrighted sample with something from your own library.

▶ Why your bitcrusher sounds different on every note — and the resampling fix
Print a long C2 note with the bitcrusher and ring mod burned in, then drop it into the synth's multisampler. The harmonics now scale properly across the keyboard, and you can layer the one-shot with the original oscillator through one amplitude envelope.
▶ Get Jupiter-8 pads and 303-style slides out of Reason's Polytone
Splitting Polytone's two oscillators across two layers and driving them with Chord Sequencer gives you pads that sit somewhere between a Jupiter-8 and a Prophet. The Audiomatic ED trick with a high-pass and compressor after it beats the bassy chirp, and the glide mode gets close to 303 basslines.

SPIT generates basslines from musical rules, not AI — with four-bar variations and a MIDI FX version(€34.99)
Tech House Market's SPIT (€34.99) picks one of six style profiles, sets key and scale, and spits out a bassline that spaces hits around the kick and stays in a tight pitch range. Longer patterns add a variation in the fourth bar, and the FX version runs as a MIDI effect so you can feed any synth.
Softbox: a free glitch multi-effect with a Dice randomizer and no account needed(free)
Softbox processes live audio through ten tempo-synced shapers — Slice, Filter, Drive, Crush, Liquid, Noise, Volume, Pan, Width — and a Dice button randomizes the lot. If dblue Glitch is overkill, this is the simpler one-button chaos generator that still lets you fine-tune after the dice roll.
◢ the word
UBERBASS adds harmonics, not a sub-octave — plus a built-in gate for precision
BOOM Library's UBERBASS (€79.20) generates its low-end weight from added harmonics around a chosen frequency, not by synthesizing an octave-down subharmonic like Enforcer. The gate stage with threshold/attack/release lets you automate the effect's entrance without drawing automation, and you can disable lookahead if you're fine without crackle protection.
Dimension Engine adds width and depth to mono sources without losing the centre
Buchert Audio's Dimension Engine (€39) generates stereo space from mono tracks — vocal, synth, guitar — while keeping the low end mono-safe and the centre anchored. Gain Match holds perceived loudness steady while you dial in width and depth, and the demo is unlimited with periodic audio interruptions.
Qrion's Discogs digs: vinyl-only hidden gems and a new EP on Sasha's label
Qrion shares her record bag picks, including a few vinyl-only cuts that are sample-clearance casualties. Her 'Arp Check' EP lands 30 October on Last Night On Earth — a solid excuse to dig into the tracks she's playing right now.

the filtered bassline that slides down a minor triad and locks in after the first break · pairs with the Qrion record bag piece — Loods' 'N Grab' is a vinyl-only find, but this one carries that same rolling energy

- 1. Drag a full drum loop or break sample onto a new audio track below your main beat.
- 2. Insert EQ Eight, enable a high-pass filter, and sweep the frequency up until the kick and low-end are cleared from the loop.
- 3. In the clip’s warp controls, set Algorithm to Beats and set the Transient Envelope fully forward (preserves transients).
- 4. Check that warp markers sit on transients and align to the project grid — use the Quantize command or manually adjust so the loop plays in time.
- 5. Blend the loop’s volume under your main beat to add character without cluttering the low end.
