tonight's move · 2026-11-04

Your staccato bass hits clip-free and stops exactly on time, leaving no low-end tail to blur the next kick.

Staccato Bass That Clears the Groove: Sustain 0, Attack 4 ms

a specific plugin

◢ the move

4 steps

Set your bass synth’s voice mode to monophonic.
Set the amp envelope attack to 4 ms.
Set sustain to 0.
Shorten decay until the bass stops ringing just before the next 16th note or kick.

stock path

All steps work with any synth that has an ADSR envelope and mono mode (Operator, Serum, Vital, stock DAW synths).

why it works

Zero sustain eliminates the steady amplitude after the decay phase, so only the transient and a quickly decaying tail sound, preventing low-end overlap that smears the kick and groove.
