Duplicate your upper-bass MIDI to a new sub; load any stock synth on a pure sine, playing only the fundamental. Solo the lows to judge.
In the sub MIDI, shorten note lengths so they don’t run together; audition the lows until the drone breaks into a groove.
If your key is E/E♭/D, set the amp-envelope release to 30 ms to stop clicks from cutting notes mid‑cycle.
Want extra snap? Try a pluck-shaped amp envelope; watch the envelope position as it retriggers (Vital/Serum show this). If it costs too much weight/headroom, revert.
Sidechain the sub to the kick with your stock compressor keyed from the kick.

Shorter sub notes open time gaps your ear reads as groove, a 30 ms release lets low notes finish a cycle to avoid clicks, and sidechain reduces kick–sub masking.
