THE SINGLE-NOTE SUB GROOVE
Lock a single-note groove first.
Program a sub-bass as a single root note (e.g., F1) hitting only on the 1 and 3 with 16th-note swing at 58%. Sidechain-duck it with the kick. Once the groove locks, shift one note up a semitone (b2) on the ‘and’ of 4 to add Phrygian darkness without breaking the rhythm.
